The Nokia E5 has just been approved by the FCC. However, that’s not why I’m saying it may well be launched in North America, since the approved E5 (RM-632) doesn’t have North American 3G bands.
So why, then? Well, because there’s an E5 unveiled by the Bluetooth SIG, with a special model number (RM-634). Its geographic availability is asserted to incorporate Australia, North America, and South America.
Moreover, the E5′s official data sheet (PDF) says there’s a version of the smartphone with 850 / 1900 3G bands – making it perfect for AT&T, or Canada’s top carriers. So I’d say there’s a substantial chance for this new Symbian smartphone to hit North America sometime soon.
Announced at an analogous time with he C3 and the C6, Nokia E5 is a handset with a QVGA display, full QWERTY keyboard, Wi-Fi, HSDPA/HSUPA, A-GPS, Ovi Maps with free navigation, 3.5mm headset jack, 5MP camera with LED flash, 250MB of internal memory, and a 2GB card within the box. Not bad in any respect for a tool to be able to cost about €180 ($220) unlocked.
