Samsung teases S Life, will be unveiled at CTIA

Thursday 11 March 2010 @ 1:21 pm

Samsung S Life

Just like PhoneDog, we’re asking the same question – What is S Life? Samsung is sending out press invites to journalists and bloggers for a meet scheduled at the CTIA Wireless that starts from March 23 in Las Vegas. The invite does not reveal anything and has the following message:

Enrichment through technology, simplicity through innovation. “S Life” is much a feeling as it is an incredible achievement. Join us as we explore the life we dream and the reality that is “S Life” at this exclusive launch event.

It’s signed by J.K. Shin which means there’s a high chance Shin will address the event. Now if we take some wild guesses, the event could be related to:

- It could brush Samsung’s vision for mobile devices
- Or more interestingly, unveil the recently seen 3D phone.

Whatever the case will be, we’ll know on March 23 (or maybe some informed soul can enlighten us ;) ).

e6-ereader

Samsung will soon launch its first e-book reader in the US market. It will be a 6-inch reader that was first showed at the CES early this year. Samsung says the prominent feature their e-book reader has is the 6-inch E-ink display supporting inputs from an electromagnetic resonance (EMR) stylus pen. The EMR pen enables users to take notes, adds annotations etc. Additionally, you’d find a journal, scheduler with Outlook sync support, Bluetooth 2.0, 2GB internal memory with microSD card slot, ePUB/PDF/TXT support, MP3 player, text-to-speech, Emolink technology and Wi-Fi.

To sell their readers in US, Samsung has tied up with Barnes & Noble who’ll sell the digital content. Just like Nook, E6 also supports LendMe technology that allows users to lend ebooks to their friends free of charge for 14 days.

E6 is expected to release in Spring for $299.

Evernote Coming Pre-Installed On Samsung Android Phones

Thursday 11 March 2010 @ 12:55 am

evernoteIf you’re looking for a note-taking Android Application and ask around, chances are someone will direct you to Evernote. It does a lot more than just take notes:

Evernote for Android is a free application that allows individuals to create notes, snap photos, and record audio. Users can instantly find any notes that were created on their phone, desktop computer, or the web. In addition, Evernote automatically makes snapshots containing printed or handwritten text searchable — great for business cards, whiteboards and wine labels.

The company has joined forces with Samsung and many of the manufacturer’s Android handsets will now come pre-installed with the application. The Samsung Behold 2 for T-Mobile recently enjoyed a software updated and Evernote was included in the package, becoming the first to incorporate the new partnership.

Phil Libin, CEO of Evernote, commented on the development:

“We’re incredibly excited to be working closely with Samsung on their line of Android phones. Android represents Evernote’s fastest growing mobile platform. This partnership helps Evernote reach a huge new audience with our promise of perfect memory for everyone.”

I’m all for manufacturers and carriers pre-installing apps on their phones, often times reducing the burden for smartphone/android newbies to hunt down applications they might enjoy or find useful. Evernote definitely fits in that category.

Any Evernote users? Chime in with your experience – both good and bad!

Samsung’s very keen on being the first to deliver latest technologies in many fields, like the mobile phone segment, TV and home entertainment plus a bunch more. This time, they’ve managed to leak the first Bluetooth 3.0 certified and by “first” we mean “world’s first”.

We’re talking about Samsung SHW-M120S, an Android phone recently certified by Bluetooth SIG, as you can see in the image above. The smartphone seems to sport a 3.3 inch WVGA AMOLED display, a 5 megapxiel camera with autofocus and a VGA videocall camera, plus WiFi, GPS and HSDPA.

A Bluetooth Core Version of 3.0 is also on board, while the T-DMB tuner on the specs list indicates that this might be an Asia-only device. We truly hope it’ll leave South Korea and reach the States and Europe, but for now rumours estimate a launch in the following weeks, at least in Asia.

Samsung video shows difference between AMOLED and Super AMOLED screens

Tuesday 9 March 2010 @ 5:13 pm

super-amoled

Super AMOLED is the next generation of AMOLED screen. Although it may sound more of a marketing gimmick it does have some advantages which is rightly pointed by this small Samsung video. Unlike touchscreen LCDs or AMOLEDs, Super AMOLEDs have touch sensor directly placed on the screen that helps it to make thinner and cost efficient. Also, these screens perform way better under direct sunlight when compared to traditional LCDs or AMOLEDs.
