Next-gen Motorola Droid for Verizon details

Monday 24 May 2010 @ 3:32 pm

For those who are tired of news about the Apple iPhone last generation, this is something that seems to be on the next generation of Motorola Verizon droid.

A leaked picture shows a Verizon Motorola manual entry of an unprecedented Droid, who apparently has MOTOBLUR (MOTOBLUR some people think is rubbish, so set a high level Droid seems a bad idea to me).

This thread over at Howard Forums suggested the new phone from Motorola is the shadow, which is about 9 mm thick and comes with:

4.1-inch WVGA TFT touchscreen display, full Android 2.1 (upgradable to Android 2.2) 8MP camera with HD (720p) video recording with 1080p output via HDMI port processor TI OMAP 3630 (probably at 720 MHz) with 2GB Memory Built

Verizon must implement the new droid Motorola / Shadow in July. Not a word about the price of the device yet, but Verizon probably be wise enough to keep it below $ 200 per contract. Then dump the old QWERTY Moto easy for the new Droid Droid and thinner when it comes out?

Motorola has reportedly bought Azingo, might make a mobile OS of its own

Saturday 8 May 2010 @ 7:12 pm

Like HTC, Motorola seems to be interested in making their own mobile operating system. Company co-CEO (Sanjay Jha), said recently: “I have always felt that owning your operating system is important, always have an ecosystem that has all services and has a capacity and scale to perform maintenance on this operating system at the forefront. ”

Well, the first step in this direction could be the acquisition of Azinger, a U.S. developer of mobile software.

According to Android and Me, this profile suggests that LinkedIn has already bought Motorola Azinger.

Azinger Azinger develops Linux-based Mobile OS, presented as “a complete mobile platform” – is highly customizable, with options for keyboard and touch user interface, browser, WebKit-based widgets and Web 2.0 experiences, and support for a wide range of phones (low to high range).

Motorola mobile Azinger could take the next level and make their own. Or you could just use it to improveMOTOBLUR user interface on their smartphones Android – not until we know with certainty that the company has official details.

Azinger is headquartered in Sunnyvale, Calif. – in your Palm (recently acquired by HP) also has its headquarters. Official website of the company can be accessed here.

Chinese phones banned in India for security reasons

Saturday 1 May 2010 @ 8:17 pm

After the banning of IMEI-less phones last December, India’s government has now decreed the banning of all phones produced by China-based companies.

According to Global Telecom Business, the Indian government is concerned about the fact that phones from China could come with “spyware or malware that offers intelligence agencies across the border access to telecom networks in India” – and that’s the reason for the ban.

Manufacturers like ZTE and Huawei, which used to sell lots of phones across India, will certainly be affected by the decision.

Indian telecom operators are also put in a difficult situation, as many of them have ordered phones from Chinese manufacturers and now they have to search for other suppliers. On the other hand, India-based phone makers should be quite happy about all this.

Companies like Nokia, Samsung, LG and Motorola may see a rise in sales across India following the banning of Chinese handsets. Ironically, lots of the phones that come under these big brands are actually manufactured in China.

Motorola no longer in top 5 phone makers, RIM takes its place

Friday 5 February 2010 @ 9:50 pm

Research in Motion has managed, for the first time in its history, to enter the top five phone makers. The Canadian company sold 10.6 million BlackBerry devices in the first quarter of 2010 – more than Sony Ericsson and Motorola.

Sony Ericsson is now the world’s fifth largest phone maker, while Motorola is no longer in top five.

RIM’s excellent results were helped by the fact that smartphone sales grew quickly in the last few years. The company’s achievement is even more impressive in the light of the fact that it sells only smartphones – unlike the other top 5 companies, which also sell feature phones. RIM plans to launch BlackBerry 6 OS later this year, as well as several new devices, so the future seems quite bright.

As expected, there are no surprises when it comes to the world’s first three largest phone makers. Nokia leads with 107.8 million phones sold. Samsung follows with 64.3 million units sold, and LG takes the third place with 27.1 million handsets shipped.

Overall, 294.9 million mobile phones were sold around the world during the first quarter of 2010 – a 21.7% increase over the first quarter of 2009.
