When Google announced Android 2.2 Froyo they did say that it might boast the area’s fastest mobile browser, a claim that was surely made easier to achieve by the borrowing of the JavaScript rendering engine from its cousin, Google Chrome. And while we were hoping that it was true ever since, a real comparison test between it and other leading browsers hasn’t happened.

Until now.

Here are the test result of two different JavaScript benchmark suites which pit the Android 2.2 browser against iOS 4′s Safari.

So, to sum things up, within the SunSpider batch of tests, Android’s browser is nearly twice as fast as iOS’ Safari. While in Google’s own V8 test suite, it’s greater than four times faster.

Naturally, JavaScript performance isn’t the one measure of speed in a browser, but for contemporary-day in-browser apps, it’s still the main important to think about.

Now, if lets just get that Froyo thing onto more devices… Are you listening, HTC, Samsung, Motorola?

The recently released HTC Wildfire, their lowest-end Android handset and the HTC Tattoo‘s successor, can now be rooted.

Make sure you needless to say you’re doing this at your personal risk, you’re going to void your warranty, and so on, then read through and follow these instructions exactly.

Need proof? Here you go.

Next up, the HTC Desire gets its first Android 2.2 Froyo custom ROM (in beta). Alongside all of the expected features in Android 2.2, you’ll be at liberty find a working HTC Sense implementation, and the video recording resolution has been bumped all of the way as much as 720p (that’s 1280 x 720 for you and me).

Screenshots? Here you go.

Again, be sure you understand the hazards involved, and once you’re able to proceed, go here and follow the instructions.

And in case you’re still wondering what quality video that 720p recording will produce, here’s a sample (make certain to monitor in HD, otherwise what’s the purpose?):

What we now have this is supposedly T-Mobile’s handset launch roadmap for what’s left of this year. Now we will’t possibly verify this, so the coolest old pinch of salt may do you good here.

There are mentions of the previously announced Motorola Charm and Samsung Vibrant (both set to launch on July 21), and it appears like 5 more Android phones may pop out of T-Mobile this year.

These seem (can’t really be 100% sure because of the blurriness of the photo) to be:

HTC Vanguard – September 9
HTC Emerald – November 5 (intriguing name, this – can it’s the legendary Project Emerald‘s fruition?)
Motorola Jordan – November 5
Motorola Begonia – November 5
unnamed LG Android phone in mid-November

Remember these are code names and the ultimate, ‘release’ names of those handsets might be very different. We also don’t have any specs for any of those new phones yet. so we can probably change over the years, as is often the case, so stay tuned.

It shall be quite interesting to determine how LG’s first Android phone for T-Mobile will look and perform. Anyway, it feels like November 5th is shaping as much as be a large handset release day for T-Mobile.

Also in there are apparent mentions of updates for the Motorola Cliq and Cliq XT to be announced in August (hopefully Android 2.1). Also, one might interpret the update for the Motorola Charm so one can be announced in September as Android 2.2 (because the phone will ship with 2.1 on release), but nonetheless, this can not happen. The MyTouch 3G Slide will receive some variety of an update in addition, to be announced sometime this month.

Excited?
