samsung Samsung ST5500 packs 14.2 megapixels and Wi Fi

Samsung has decided to pull all stops on its latest digital camera — the ST5500. This point-and-shoot sports a 14.2 megapixel sensor, Wi-Fi, 100MB on-board memory and microSD card support. For those of you who are into video, you’ll be happy to know that you can shoot footage at 30 fps with a 1280 x 720 resolution as well, which should make for some smooth playback. The 7x optical zoom camera also has a large 3.5″ LCD touchscreen on the back so everything should be more intuitive with less clutter and less buttons. With Wi-Fi built in, you can even send pictures via email and load videos straight into websites like YouTube or Vimeo. No word on pricing, but look for it to hit store shelves sometime in Q1 2010.

LG GD910 Review

Tuesday 15 December 2009 @ 12:00 pm

LG Electronics has developed an interesting hybrid of a wristwatch and a mobile phone – the gadget is called LG GD910. The new device is very original and it will certainly interest those who constantly want to be in touch, no matter what extreme conditions surround them. The phone and watch symbiosis fit on your wrist very comfortable. LG GD910 has similar size compared with a conventional wrist watches for men, but is a little thicker, reaching 1.5 inches in thickness. LG GD910 is also a waterproof gadget and its touchscreen is protected by a 1.43 inches tempered glass. LG GD910 has an excellent backlighting, which allows seeing the picture in any conditions, even very bright. The housing of LG GD910 is made from stainless steel. On one hand, the watch-phone became slightly heavier, on the other – the gadget is securely fastened to the wrist, so that particular problems will not arise for the owner. Three control buttons are located on one side of LG GD910, as in ordinary wristwatch. The watch-clock has a 0.3 megapixel camera with a resolution of 640×480. It is located directly on the display. In the same place, above the display, is also located the speaker of LG GD910. The power of this speaker is enough to communicate without using a wireless headset. The full charged battery of LG GD910 can last about two and a half days. Its capacity is 510 mAh.The owner of the watch-phone can change the clock appearance as he desires, selecting one of its preinstalled varieties, and also can use all the advanced features of a modern mobile gadget: Bluetooth, high speed internet access through 3G, MP3-player, Text-to-Speech, and a phonebook of one thousand contacts. LG GD910 supports videoconferencing.LG GD910 has 2 GB of internal memory, but, unfortunately, it can not be increased. This is one of the device disadvantages. Also, no MMS, e-mail client, WEB-browser, and radio. However, the goal of the designers was not to turn LG GD910 in a device stuffed with entertainment features. This is primarily a functional symbiosis between phone and watch with basic functions of both. The watch-Phone LG GD910 is an elegant stylish gadget that attracts attention and is characterized by a unique combination. It is quite convenient, especially during leisure time: you do not need to think in what pocket to hold your mobile phone, and how to get it then. Even when swimming or surfing, you can, not only see what time is it, glancing at your wrist, but also take incoming calls – or make outgoing calls.

Samsung appoints a new CEO, will adopt new “company system”

Geesung Choi

Samsung has announced a major organizational restructuring that has made way for a new CEO, COO and CFO. Geesung Choi has been named as the new President and CEO of Samsung Electronics while the current Vice Chairman and CEO, Yoon-woo Lee will now act as a Chairman of the Board of Directors.

Jay Y. Lee has been named as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Ju-Hwa Yoon as Chief Financial Officer (CFO).

Samsung has also reorganized its company structure and will adopt the company system. In this system each business unit will be managed like a stand-alone company with its own President and CFO.

Previously, Samsung businesses were segregated into two – Digital Media & Communications and Device Solutions but now will be operated under the same corporate entity with seven different companies.

Samsung reckons such structure will enable them to create greater autonomy at the operating level and also reduce the decision making hierarchy from three to two stages.

In other related news, Samsung Electronics has decided to absorb Samsung Digital Imaging and operate under the main brand. The union if approved, will allow Samsung to use SDIs optical technology and apply to other businesses while SDI will be able to benefit from Samsung Electronics’ global marketing and sales network.

Do not Drop Your HTC HD2 Smartphone!

If you drop your HTC HD2 handset on the pavement, odds are that it’ll get the same damage as the unit below, photographed by an unlucky HD2 owner in Bristol. He managed to drop the phone on the concrete pavement and… well, let’s say the pavement survived.

The unlucky user wishes the handset didn’t have a flush screen and that it would pack a plastic body, to avoid this type of damage. Repairs have started yesterday and we’re really wondering how much this process will cost and if the warranty covers it.

bbm update BlackBerry Messenger gets an OTA update

It’s nowhere near as exciting as, oh, let’s say the release of OS 5.0 for all current generation devices on the market prior to the Storm2, but BlackBerry Messenger 5.0 has received its first update. Coming in at 2.5MB, BBM 5.0.0.55 doesn’t appear to offer anything new in terms of feature, but does include some much needed refinements to the otherwise solid app. What do we mean by that? You’re finally able to get visible previews of incoming pictures and the menu options been reorganized, now presented in a logical fashion. Want in on the action? Of course you do. Just hit up blackberry.com/messenger on device and upgrade away.
