Need for Speed Shift Goes iPhone, Gameplay Video Available

Need for Speed: Shift is the latest title in the NFS series and after being made available on most consoles and the PC, the title finally arrives on the iPhone and iPod Touch. EA will soon release versions of the game for these platforms, including 20 real life cars, among which there’s also the very hot Nissan Skyline GT-R.

The folks who tested the game claim that it provides a “more sim experience” than NFS Undercover, in its iPhone version. Also, the list of cars you can drive is pretty long and you check it out below if you’re curious. Gameplay video after the list!

Motorola Zeppelin (XT800) and MT710 Gets Pictured, Heading for China

Motorola Zeppelin aka the XT800 and Motorola MT710 are Android handsets we’ve seen before on the web, but they’ve yet to be announced, although we’ve found out that they should make it to China soon. Zeppelin gets pictured below and its specs are available after the break, courtesy of Chinese website The Third Media.

Moto XT800 is a dual mode phone (GSM and CDMA), that packs a 3.7 inch touchscreen display (854 x 480 pixels resolution), supports 3G connectivity, WiFi, incorporates a HDMI port and a 5 megapixel camera with flash. The folks of Mobile-review have also spotted the Motorola MT710 phone next to Zeppelin in a bunch of images, that you can also see below.

We have no info about the launch date of the XT800 and MT710, but we’re guessing they’ll be made available pretty soon.

Apple does: sell ten million iPhones in the current quarter?

According to a Taiwanese market research firm, shipments of Taiwan’s smartphone integrated circuits are exploding due to an unexpected increase in iPhone 3GS sales. Based upon supply chain analysis, Market Intelligence and Consulting Institute predicts that Apple will sell a record-breaking 10 million iPhones in this current quarter alone, a modest increase over the record 7.4 million units sold in the previous quarter. With global sales of the iPhone continuing to increase, this tiara-wearing, digitally clueless beauty queen and its parent company are laughing all the way to the bank.

Samsung ST5500 packs 14.2 megapixels and Wi-Fi

Samsung has decided to pull all stops on its latest digital camera — the ST5500. This point-and-shoot sports a 14.2 megapixel sensor, Wi-Fi, 100MB on-board memory and microSD card support. For those of you who are into video, you’ll be happy to know that you can shoot footage at 30 fps with a 1280 x 720 resolution as well, which should make for some smooth playback. The 7x optical zoom camera also has a large 3.5″ LCD touchscreen on the back so everything should be more intuitive with less clutter and less buttons. With Wi-Fi built in, you can even send pictures via email and load videos straight into websites like YouTube or Vimeo. No word on pricing, but look for it to hit store shelves sometime in Q1 2010.

The new device is very original and it will certainly interest those who constantly want to be in touch, no matter what extreme conditions surround them. Rumor: Nexus One from Google will go on sale Jan. 5, 2010

As Reuters reports, citing its own sources, the smartphone from Google, known as the Nexus One, will be available in the U.S. beginning with Jan. 5, 2010. There will be two possibilities to have it: without contract or with contract on T-Mobile.According to rumors, when signing a two-year contract with the operator, the initial fee for Google Nexus One will be $ 199. However, nothing is yet known regarding the conditions of the contract.The source says that in long terms, Google will become a full retail seller, and from mobile operators will receive only commission. He also expressed confidence that the smartphone from Google will change the business model of the mobile industry, as well as iPhone did in his time.An analyst expert from Baird Research, Will Power, believes that the entrance on the market of Google Nexus One (if this device will actually be sold under the brand of the internet giant) will have a negative impact on all manufacturers of smartphones, including such large as Apple, Research In Motion, Nokia , HTC, Motorola, Palm and Samsung. Synaptics demonstrated the concept phone Fuse, with touch housing

The Synaptics company demonstrated a concept phone named Fuse, whose sensing parts is not only the screen but also the housing, as reports Electronista. In addition, on the sides of the phone are installed capacitive sensors and pressure sensors that can detect a touch, and the pressure force on the case.

Fuse is also equipped with an accelerometer, which distinguishes any tilting and movements of the phone in space. The device has a large AMOLED-display with a resolution of 800×480 pixels and the tactile feedback. The phone recognizes multitouch-motion, as well as provides a high level of three-dimensional graphics.

Synaptics Fuse is built on the Texas Instruments OMAP 3630 processor and in the development of the concept an active role played the companies TheAlloy and The Astonishing Tribe.

The novelty will be showed-off at CES 2010, Mobile World Congress 2010. It is unlikely that this concept will go into mass production, but the technologies used in it will be applied in phones and smartphones for the future.

Samsung appoints a new CEO, will adopt new “company system”

Samsung has announced a major organizational restructuring that has made way for a new CEO, COO and CFO. Geesung Choi has been named as the new President and CEO of Samsung Electronics while the current Vice Chairman and CEO, Yoon-woo Lee will now act as a Chairman of the Board of Directors.

Jay Y. Lee has been named as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Ju-Hwa Yoon as Chief Financial Officer (CFO).

Samsung has also reorganized its company structure and will adopt the company system. In this system each business unit will be managed like a stand-alone company with its own President and CFO.

Previously, Samsung businesses were segregated into two – Digital Media & Communications and Device Solutions but now will be operated under the same corporate entity with seven different companies.

Samsung reckons such structure will enable them to create greater autonomy at the operating level and also reduce the decision making hierarchy from three to two stages.

In other related news, Samsung Electronics has decided to absorb Samsung Digital Imaging and operate under the main brand. The union if approved, will allow Samsung to use SDIs optical technology and apply to other businesses while SDI will be able to benefit from Samsung Electronics’ global marketing and sales network.

Do not Drop Your HTC HD2 Smartphone!

If you drop your HTC HD2 handset on the pavement, odds are that it’ll get the same damage as the unit below, photographed by an unlucky HD2 owner in Bristol. He managed to drop the phone on the concrete pavement and… well, let’s say the pavement survived.

The unlucky user wishes the handset didn’t have a flush screen and that it would pack a plastic body, to avoid this type of damage. Repairs have started yesterday and we’re really wondering how much this process will cost and if the warranty covers it.

Glass touchscreens lose the battle with resistance, again…

It’s nowhere near as exciting as, oh, let’s say the release of OS 5.0 for all current generation devices on the market prior to the Storm2, but BlackBerry Messenger 5.0 has received its first update. Coming in at 2.5MB, BBM 5.0.0.55 doesn’t appear to offer anything new in terms of feature, but does include some much needed refinements to the otherwise solid app. What do we mean by that?
