The HTC HD2 is one of the gadgets up for Engadget’s “Gadget of the Year” award – jump over to the voting page and cast your vote. We can’t let the iPhone 3GS win!
If you had any doubts about Steve Jobs’ confidence and convictions after returning to Apple from his sick leave, it’s time you leave those at the door. The revered CEO announced a hotly anticipated device last week and followed up by burning the competition. On Google, Steve Jobs said that its motto “Don’t be evil” is bullshit (Steve’s words, not ours). Clearly, Steve-o isn’t phased by the Nexus One while he boasts the three billion apps sold from the Apple app store. Regarding Adobe, Steve apparently went on to say they’re lazy and are squandering so much potential. Wow. And Flash? According to Steve, no one will be using Flash in the future; it’s going to be all about HTML5.
Is Steve Jobs’ boisterous attitude completely without warrant? Or is he just telling it like it is? Let us know your thoughts.
We haven’t confirmed this yet, but one of our connects just let us know that the BlackBerry Curve 8900 might be seeing a status change pretty soon.
So, if our tipster is to be believed, the BlackBerry Curve 8900 on T-Mobile might be going on an end-of-life plan. What better device to replace the BlackBerry 8900 than the BlackBerry 8910? RIM sure knows how to slip in those minor refreshes…
Dual booting just got turned into a fact, not a mere concept on mobile devices, thanks to the folks of XDA developers. Turns out that NRG has a ROM that provides dual booting for Windows Mobile devices and this piece of software bears the name of “Energy Android Super Lite ROM”.
We’re dealing with a naked ROM, with dual booting software built in and… that’s just about it. This ROM will only take 58MB storage space and after flashing it, you’ll need Android files that you’ll find in a CAB file worth 85MB and provided here. If you’re a HTC Touch Pro2 user and you’re eager to get a taste of Android, this is as easy as it gets.
The ROM is available here and the Android CAB over here.

Nokia N900 owners are now the envy of the mobile world having been given the privilege of being the first group of people to use the official finalized version of Firefox Mobile. Firefox Mobile will run on the Maemo 5 platform and incorporates many features seen in the desktop version of Firefox including the Awesome Bar, add-ons, tabbed browsing, location-aware browsing, and safe browsing which provides you with an instant web ID and allows you to your easily customize your security settings. Mozilla also introduced Weave Sync, a feature which allows you to sync your tabs, history, bookmarks, and passwords between your desktop and mobile device. Anyone rocking a N900 want to share your first impressions with us?
After months of tests and releases, Firefox Mobile is now available in its final version on Nokia N900. The device that runs Maemo 5 can be seen below and you should know that Firefox Mobile is also heading to the Android and Windows Mobile handsets, as well.
It might even reach the Apple iPad or iPhone, if Steve Jobs allows it. This browser’s main appeal is the ability of customizing it by adding functions via add-ons. Firefox is the very first mobile web browser to support these extra features, available as 40 add-ons right now.
Will this new version make Mozilla a truly worthy opponent on the mobile browser market?

Just days after the announcement of the Apple iPad tablet, we’ve come across a video showing the new device’s UI running on the iPhone and you should know that it has also been ported to the iPod Touch. Here’s what we’re talking about.
Basically, your iPhone will get a 3D flavour of the iPad’s interface, iBooks included and other small touches. However, in order to make the port work, you’ll need a jailbroken iPhone or iPod Touch. Also, you should have Winterboard installed via Cydia and the “Simple iPad Theme”.
Next, you should install MakeItMine once again via Cydia, in order to change the carrier shown on screen to “iPad”. After this step, you’ll need to download the Shrink app to reduce the size of the icons and then install ProSwitcher for the multitasking ability. Finally, you’ll be able to install NY Times, Classics and Kindle apps for the ebooks.

Sharp eyed reader Mike noticed a little humor in the Nexus One manual screen shots. It looks like the the writers weren’t content with the name “Jane Doe” for a change.
Hubris

excessive pride or self-confidence; arrogance.

Looking at the iPad SDK, programmers are starting to say that the new version of the iPhone OS will support video calls, file downloads, and some sort of multitasking. There’s also several other features in the SDK that won’t work with the iPad, but would be applicable to the iPhone in it’s current configuration.
We might have been underwhelmed by the iPad, but the OS it’s running may be another story. We’re starting to see glimpses of a major software update that could include some of the functionality that people have really missed in their iPhone. It appears that the next update will include the ability to video conference, as well as run the video in a partial or full screen, suggesting that you might be able to use another application while making a call. There also appears to be support for multiple, and even custom dictionaries, as well as a handwriting keyboard. There are also hooks for location aware mapping as well as a file upload function in Safari. It appears that while the iPhone has taken it’s lumps from the Android, it’s not down and out yet.

For some, there is quite a bit of anxiety involved in switching from one email system to another. What will become of all your old emails from family/friends, your precious email attachments containing hundreds of hours of video featuring LOLCats, or the 400 copies of that one chain letter your partially senile grandfather forwards you every two weeks? Well, it looks like — if your a Mac user ready to jump over to Google Apps — there is no need to panic, because the Big G is looking to alleviate this anxiety for you. Recently, Google released a migration tool that will allow users of Apple Mail, Thunderbird, or Eudora to upload all their email to Google Apps and seemlessly make the switch. The tool, which already has a Windows counterpart, will only work with Google Apps and not with the more popular gmail.com or googlemail.com services. Hit up the official press release for all the details.

David over at Nuevasync was kind enough to let me know about Nueva’s Yahoo! Contacts sync feature a month or so ago when they were testing it. My reaction was (almost embarrassingly) “Yahoo! has contacts?”. Yes, it has been a long time since I used Yahoo! Mail for anything and didn’t realize that their address book had been fleshed out in recent years. If you’re a Yahoo! lover or just user, and want to sync your Y! contacts with your Windows Mobile (or other Activesync compatible smartphone), Nueva has a new feature for you!
Even before it has landed in the hands of consumers, Apple’s iPad is already living up to its reputation as a “revolutionary” device. The first battle, in what may become a full out war, has begun in the lucrative book market with Amazon pulling all of Macmillan books from its digital inventory. Rumor has it that the two companies are bickering over pricing with Macmillan (and other publishers) reportedly pushing Amazon for the same $15 price point being offered by Apple. Amazon has refused to negotiate and is staunchly sticking to its $9.99 pricing, a price point to which publishers begrudgingly agreed due to the popularity of the Kindle. Now that there will be soon be a new game in town, the Kindle is losing a bit of its luster, and Amazon loses some of its leverage and the whole e-book market gets turned upside down. Oh, Apple.
It appears as though Google has quietly added the ability to send SMS messages to multiple contacts via its Google Voice web interface. Those who rely heavily, or primarily, on Google Voice have been requesting this feature for quite some time. There has been no official announcement from Google yet, but those of you with GV access can head over to google.com/voice and give it a whirl.

We’d say so! From $59 to $7,000, if you want an Apple product, there’s a pretty darn good chance you’ll be able to pick something in your price range. Simply brilliant. Full size image link after the break…
If you’re a diehard Steve Jobs fan and you want to have a look at the keynote that included the launch of the Apple iPad, you can check out this address in order to watch it again. However, there’s a tiny little extra in there you didn’t expect… We’re talking about a clickable area, that lets you access the audio keynote of the September 2009 Apple event.
We’re talking about the “It’s Only Rock and Roll” event that hosted the launch of new iPod versions back in September and if you clicked the area above “low” video resolution in the page mentioned above, you must have found it. We can blame this on the Apple website programmers’ rush to get everything up and running for the launch.
When will this be modified? Never or on Monday, since we’re on a weekend right now.
